Stories One – PC

A moba map

I worked on a PC free to play iteration of the Stories One mobile game. I created the level design from blocks, inspired by 90’s New York. Then, with the art team, we created the assets to dress it up, validating every step of the way through playtests.

We chose to go for a more detailed and sharp look compared to the mobile game, as the goal was to appeal to an older target on that platform. Unlike the mobile version, we had the opportunity to use lightmaps as our ressources were larger on PC. Building are a mix of 3D modeled first floors and textures for the higher levels.

Creating a non gendered avatar menu and content

We also updated the avatars to make them look more mature. I’ve worked on a workflow to add different body type choices in the customization menu. After consulting the Afrogameuses association about diversity subjects, it was really important to us that players would not start with a male or female gender choice, but could create the body type they want using sliders. Of course, this workflow had to support clothes which would adapt to the desired body shapes. We achieved this using the Maya Skinwrap modifier and blendshapes on both clothes and the avatar’s rig.

Weapons and FXs

Making a moba included making a range of different weapons, with their own FXs and animations. A subject we tackled by making the weapons in Maya and Substance painter, and then we animated them plus the hands holding them directly in Unity, using a rigging plug-in. FXs were made with Shadergraph and the basic Unity particle system.
